『『Pañcimāni, bhikkhave, sekhabalāni [sekkhabalāni (ka.)]. Katamāni pañca? Saddhābalaṃ, hirībalaṃ [hiribalaṃ (sī. pī.)], ottappabalaṃ, vīriyabalaṃ [viriyabalaṃ (sī. syā. kaṃ. pī.)], paññābalaṃ – imāni kho, bhikkhave, pañca sekhabalāni.
『『Tasmātiha , bhikkhave, evaṃ sikkhitabbaṃ – 『saddhābalena samannāgatā bhavissāma sekhabalena, hirībalena samannāgatā bhavissāma sekhabalena, ottappabalena samannāgatā bhavissāma sekhabalena, vīriyabalena samannāgatā bhavissāma sekhabalena, paññābalena samannāgatā bhavissāma sekhabalenā』ti. Idha, bhikkhave, ariyasāvako saddho hoti, saddahati tathāgatassa bodhiṃ – 『itipi so bhagavā arahaṃ sammāsambuddho vijjācaraṇasampanno sugato lokavidū anuttaro purisadammasārathi satthā devamanussānaṃ buddho bhagavā』ti. Katame pañca? Saddhāpi nāma te nāhosi kusalesu dhammesu, hirīpi nāma te nāhosi kusalesu dhammesu, ottappampi nāma te nāhosi kusalesu dhammesu, vīriyampi nāma te nāhosi kusalesu dhammesu, paññāpi nāma te nāhosi kusalesu dhammesu. 『『Na tāva, bhikkhave, akusalassa samāpatti hoti yāva hirī paccupaṭṭhitā hoti kusalesu dhammesu. Yato ca kho, bhikkhave, hirī antarahitā hoti, ahirikaṃ pariyuṭṭhāya tiṭṭhati; atha akusalassa samāpatti hoti.

- "比丘們,任何比丘或比丘尼捨棄學處而退回低劣生活,他在現法中會遭受五種同法的責難,有五個應受譴責的理由。哪五種?'你在善法中沒有信心,你在善法中沒有慚恥,你在善法中沒有愧懼,你在善法中沒有精進,你在善法中沒有智慧。'比丘們,任何比丘或比丘尼捨棄學處而退回低劣生活,他在現法中會遭受這五種同法的責難,有這五個應受譴責的理由。 比丘們,任何比丘或比丘尼即使帶著痛苦,帶著憂惱,淚流滿面地哭泣著,也要圓滿清凈地修行梵行,他在現法中會得到五種同法的稱讚,有五個應受讚歎的理由。哪五種?'你在善法中有信心,你在善法中有慚恥,你在善法中有愧懼,你在善法中有精進,你在善法中有智慧。'比丘們,任何比丘或比丘尼即使帶著痛苦,帶著憂惱,淚流滿面地哭泣著,也要圓滿清凈地修行梵行,他在現法中會得到這五種同法的稱讚,有這五個應受讚歎的理由。"第五經。

- "比丘們,只要對善法有信心存在,不善就不會成就。比丘們,當信心消失,不信佔據主導地位時,不善就會成就。 比丘們,只要對善法有慚恥存在,不善就不會成就。比丘們,當慚恥消失,無慚佔據主導地位時,不善就會成就。 比丘們,只要對善法有愧懼存在,不善就不會成就。比丘們,當愧懼消失,無愧佔據主導地位時,不善就會成就。 比丘們,只要對善法有精進存在,不善就不會成就。比丘們,當精進消失,懈怠佔據主導地位時,不善就會成就。 比丘們,只要對善法有智慧存在,不善就不會成就。比丘們,當智慧消失,愚癡佔據主導地位時,不善就會成就。"第六經。

『『Yebhuyyena, bhikkhave, sattā kāmesu laḷitā [palāḷitā (sī.)]. Asitabyābhaṅgiṃ [asitabyābhaṅgi cepi (?)], bhikkhave, kulaputto ohāya agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajito hoti, 『saddhāpabbajito kulaputto』ti alaṃ vacanāya. Taṃ kissa hetu? Labbhā [labbhā hi (syā.)], bhikkhave, yobbanena kāmā te ca kho yādisā vā tādisā vā. Ye ca, bhikkhave, hīnā kāmā ye ca majjhimā kāmā ye ca paṇītā kāmā , sabbe kāmā 『kāmā』tveva saṅkhaṃ gacchanti. Seyyathāpi , bhikkhave, daharo kumāro mando uttānaseyyako dhātiyā pamādamanvāya kaṭṭhaṃ vā kaṭhalaṃ [kathalaṃ (ka.)] vā mukhe āhareyya. Tamenaṃ dhāti sīghaṃ sīghaṃ [sīghasīghaṃ (sī.)] manasi kareyya; sīghaṃ sīghaṃ manasi karitvā sīghaṃ sīghaṃ āhareyya. Paṭhamaagāravasuttaṃ

"諸比丘,大多數眾生沉溺於欲樂。諸比丘,如果一個良家子弟放棄了斧頭和擔架,從在家生活出家成為無家者,可以稱之為'因信仰而出家的良家子弟'。這是什麼原因呢?諸比丘,年輕人可以獲得欲樂,無論是低階的、中等的還是高級的。諸比丘,無論是低階的欲樂、中等的欲樂還是高級的欲樂,所有這些欲樂都被稱為'欲樂'。 諸比丘,就像一個年幼無知的嬰兒仰臥著,由於保姆的疏忽而把木頭或石頭放進嘴裡。保姆應該立即注意到;注意到后應該立即取出。如果不能立即取出,就應該用左手扶住頭,用右手彎曲手指,即使流血也要取出。這是什麼原因呢?諸比丘,我說這對嬰兒來說是有害的,不是無害的。諸比丘,保姆出於善意、爲了利益、出於同情而這樣做是應該的。但是,諸比丘,當那個嬰兒長大了,有足夠的智慧時,保姆就不再關心那個孩子了,想著:'現在這個孩子可以自己照顧自己,不會再粗心大意了。' 同樣地,諸比丘,只要比丘在善法上還沒有以信心完成,還沒有以慚愧完成,還沒有以畏懼完成,還沒有以精進完成,還沒有以智慧完成,我就必須保護那個比丘。但是,諸比丘,當比丘在善法上已經以信心完成,已經以慚愧完成,已經以畏懼完成,已經以精進完成,已經以智慧完成時,我就不再關心那個比丘了,想著:'現在這個比丘可以自己照顧自己,不會再粗心大意了。'"第七經。

- "諸比丘,具備五法的比丘會墮落,不能在正法中站穩腳跟。哪五法呢?諸比丘,沒有信心的比丘會墮落,不能在正法中站穩腳跟。諸比丘,無慚的比丘會墮落,不能在正法中站穩腳跟。諸比丘,無愧的比丘會墮落,不能在正法中站穩腳跟。諸比丘,懶惰的比丘會墮落,不能在正法中站穩腳跟。諸比丘,愚鈍的比丘會墮落,不能在正法中站穩腳跟。諸比丘,具備這五法的比丘會墮落,不能在正法中站穩腳跟。 諸比丘,具備五法的比丘不會墮落,能在正法中站穩腳跟。哪五法呢?諸比丘,有信心的比丘不會墮落,能在正法中站穩腳跟。諸比丘,有慚的比丘不會墮落,能在正法中站穩腳跟。諸比丘,有愧的比丘不會墮落,能在正法中站穩腳跟。諸比丘,精進的比丘不會墮落,能在正法中站穩腳跟。諸比丘,有智慧的比丘不會墮落,能在正法中站穩腳跟。諸比丘,具備這五法的比丘不會墮落,能在正法中站穩腳跟。"第八經。

Ahiriko, bhikkhave, bhikkhu agāravo appatisso cavati, nappatiṭṭhāti saddhamme. Anottappī, bhikkhave, bhikkhu agāravo appatisso cavati, nappatiṭṭhāti saddhamme.
